Selfridges invited us to design a proposal for a permanent installation to revamp the atrium in their Manchester Store in Exchange Square. Our proposal aims to create a dramatic attraction at the heart of the building. We propose Glamroots, a theatrical glittering growth inspired by the geometry of Banyan trees. Banyan Roots, which are common in Asia, envelope ancient temples with intricate patterns, Glamroots invade the atrium, descending from above: the structure weaves through the escalators and occupies the foyer and facade to draw visitors inside. Like Jack and the Beanstalk, the roots have a vertical allure, and twist upwards, tempting visitors into a fairytale of lights and reflections.
